Hiba prepares for costumed adventures on World Book Day

17 Apr 2019

If you are going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books. ~ Roald Dahl

With two beautifully presented libraries and thousands of books at our disposal, it is no wonder that plans are well underway within Hiba School in anticipation of World Book Day. Whether you prefer adventure stories or picture books, fact or fiction; reading provides pleasure for all ages. Each week, Hiba pupils are offered an opportunity to explore the various genres of books available during library lessons and avid readers frequent our libraries each day during breaks. The first ever World Book Day was celebrated on 23rd April 1995. The date was decided by UNESCO as it was also the death and birth anniversary of William Shakespeare. In homage to this, we will celebrate our first ever World Book Day at Hiba school. Both pupils and staff will be invited to come to school dressed as their favourite character from a book of their choosing. The opportunities for creativity and imaginability are endless, with so many iconic characters to choose from. Celebrations for World Book Day will span an entire week, from Monday, April 22nd until Friday, April 26th. Throughout the week, each class will focus on one particular book or text as chosen by their English teacher. Pupils will participate in fun speaking and listening tasks, as well as creative reading and writing activities inspired by the book they are reviewing.

A wide selection of new books will also be made available for purchase in the school library during our magnificent Book Fair. The Book Fair will offer a wide variety of both Chinese and English books and all proceeds will be reinvested in our Hiba libraries. We at Hiba appreciate our families’ support for our Book Fair. We are looking forward to seeing our pupils’ innovative costumes as they bring their favourite characters to life on World Book Day this year.
